Colombo, Sri Lanka — Pakistan cricketer Sidra Amin has been officially reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup match against India held in Colombo on Sunday.
The incident occurred when Amin, visibly upset after her dismissal in the 40th over, forcefully struck her bat onto the pitch. Following an investigation, she was found to have violated Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which prohibits “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”
As a result, one demerit point has been added to Amin’s disciplinary record. This marks her first offence within a 24-month period.
Amin admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Shandré Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, meaning no formal hearing was required.
The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Nimali Perera, with third umpire Kerrin Klaaste and fourth umpire Kim Cotton assisting.
Under ICC regulations, Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum fine of 50% of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points depending on the severity of the offence.
