Delhi Capitals once again found themselves under serious pressure in IPL 2026 as Kolkata Knight Riders produced a brilliant bowling performance to stop DC at just 142/8 in a very important match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. What looked like a decent batting start slowly turned into another disappointing collapse for the home side, while KKR walked away from the first innings looking confident and fully in control.
The match also had one scary moment for Kolkata fans when star spinner Varun Chakravarthy looked injured during his spell. For a few minutes, the KKR dugout looked worried because Varun has been one of their most important players this season. Thankfully for Kolkata, the spinner continued bowling even after looking uncomfortable.
For Delhi Capitals, though, the bigger headache was once again their batting. Just when fans expected the team to finally play a big innings in an important match, the middle order completely failed to deliver.
DC Got A Good Start But Couldn’t Continue The Momentum
After losing the toss, Delhi Capitals were asked to bat first. The pitch looked slightly slow, but not impossible for batting. In fact, during the powerplay, it looked like Delhi were preparing for a strong total.
KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka started carefully in the beginning, but after settling down, both batters started playing some beautiful cricket shots. Nissanka especially looked very comfortable against both pace and spin. He timed the ball nicely and found gaps regularly.
KL Rahul also looked in control early on. He was rotating strike smartly and taking fewer risks. Together, the two batters gave Delhi the kind of start they badly needed after their recent poor batting performances.

By the end of the powerplay, Delhi had crossed the 50-run mark and things looked positive for the home side. Fans inside the stadium were finally expecting a big total.
But as IPL matches often go, one wicket changed everything.
KKR Pulled The Match Back Brilliantly
The turning point came when Kartik Tyagi dismissed KL Rahul. Rahul tried to increase the scoring rate but failed to connect properly, and KKR grabbed a massive wicket at exactly the right moment. After Rahul’s dismissal, Delhi’s innings completely lost rhythm.
The middle order once again failed to handle pressure. Nitish Rana got a start but couldn’t convert it into a big innings. Tristan Stubbs looked uncomfortable from the beginning, while Sameer Rizvi also struggled badly to score freely.
Suddenly, Delhi went from looking comfortable to looking completely stuck. The boundaries stopped coming, singles became difficult, and KKR bowlers slowly tightened their grip over the match.
Sunil Narine Once Again Showed His Class
Whenever Kolkata Knight Riders need control in the middle overs, Sunil Narine somehow finds a way to deliver. This match was no different.
The experienced spinner bowled with amazing discipline and never allowed Delhi batters to attack him freely. His variations, accuracy, and calmness created huge pressure on the batting side.
Every over from Narine felt like Delhi were just trying to survive instead of scoring runs.
Along with Narine, Anukul Roy also bowled brilliantly. He picked up important wickets and kept the scoring rate under control. His spell quietly became one of the biggest reasons behind Delhi’s collapse.
When Tristan Stubbs got out, Delhi Capitals were already in serious trouble, and from there the innings never truly recovered.
Massive Injury Scare For Varun Chakravarthy
One moment that grabbed everyone’s attention during the innings was Varun Chakravarthy’s injury scare.
During one of his overs, Varun looked uncomfortable and was seen holding his leg. He even appeared to struggle while walking back to his mark. For KKR fans, it was definitely a tense moment because Varun has played a huge role in their campaign this season.
The team physio quickly came onto the field, and for a moment it looked like the spinner might leave the match midway. But Varun showed real fighting spirit.
Despite the discomfort, he continued bowling and still managed to trouble Delhi batters with his mystery spin. His determination impressed both fans and commentators.
KKR management will now hope the injury is not serious because the playoffs are getting closer and every match is becoming more important.
Ashutosh Sharma Tried To Rescue Delhi
At one stage, it honestly looked like Delhi Capitals would not even cross 130.
But Ashutosh Sharma played a very useful knock in the final overs and gave Delhi at least some hope. He attacked whenever possible and played fearless cricket under pressure.
While wickets kept falling from the other end, Ashutosh continued fighting and managed to score some valuable boundaries late in the innings.
His contribution helped Delhi reach 142, which may not be a massive total, but at least gave their bowlers something to defend. Without Ashutosh’s late effort, the scorecard could have looked far worse.
Pathum Nissanka Was One Of The Few Positives
Even though Delhi had a disappointing innings overall, Pathum Nissanka’s batting was definitely a positive sign.
The Sri Lankan batter looked calm, technically solid, and very mature at the crease. He handled pressure nicely and played proper cricket shots instead of blindly attacking.
At a time when several Delhi batters are struggling badly for consistency, Nissanka has quietly become one of the team’s most reliable players.
His innings showed patience and smart game awareness. Unfortunately for Delhi, no other batter stayed long enough to support him properly.
Delhi Capitals Continue To Suffer From The Same Problem
One thing has become very clear this season — Delhi Capitals keep making the same mistakes again and again.
The team often starts well but loses momentum badly in the middle overs. Their batting lineup looks confused at times, especially when the scoring rate slows down.
Instead of putting pressure back on bowlers, the batters often become defensive, and that allows opposition teams to dominate the game. Against KKR too, Delhi looked short by at least 20 to 25 runs. On this pitch, something around 165 would probably have made the chase difficult.
But 142 now gives Kolkata a clear advantage.
KKR Look Strong Favorites Now
With only 143 runs needed, Kolkata Knight Riders will feel very confident heading into the chase.
Their batting lineup has enough experience and power to handle pressure situations. Players like Ajinkya Rahane, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, and others know exactly how to approach these kinds of run chases.
Delhi Capitals now need something special from their bowlers. They will be hoping for early wickets from Mitchell Starc and Mukesh Kumar because if KKR get a strong powerplay start, the match could finish very quickly.
Playoff Pressure Making Matches More Intense
As IPL 2026 moves closer to the playoff stage, every single match is becoming more intense and emotional. For Delhi Capitals, this game feels almost like a knockout match. Another defeat could seriously damage their playoff hopes.
For Kolkata Knight Riders, a win here would strengthen their position in the points table and move them one step closer to qualification. That pressure was clearly visible during the first innings itself, and fans can now expect a very tense second innings under the Delhi lights.
