Mumbai Indians Get Off to a Poor Start
The big IPL 2026 clash between and at Eden Gardens started with full drama and pressure. KKR captain won the toss and decided to bowl first, and his bowlers immediately put Mumbai under pressure.
MI’s opening pair failed to give a solid start. Ryan Rickelton tried to attack early but lost his wicket quickly after mistiming a shot. Soon after that, Naman Dhir also got out cheaply, and Mumbai Indians suddenly found themselves struggling in the powerplay itself.
The KKR crowd inside the stadium became louder after every wicket, and it looked like Kolkata had complete control of the match from the beginning.
Rohit and Surya Fail to Build Big Partnership
Fans were expecting experienced stars like and to rescue Mumbai from trouble. Rohit looked confident for a short time and played a few beautiful shots, including a massive six that excited MI supporters.
But just when Rohit looked dangerous, KKR struck once again. Saurabh Dubey bowled a smart spell and removed Rohit at a very important moment. A few overs later, Suryakumar Yadav also got out after playing a quick but short innings.
Those wickets pushed Mumbai further behind in the game. The batting lineup looked under pressure, and boundaries completely dried up during the middle overs.

KKR Bowlers Completely Dominated the Middle Overs
KKR bowlers deserve full credit for controlling the innings brilliantly. Their bowling attack stayed disciplined from start to finish and never allowed Mumbai batters to play freely.
once again showed his experience with tight bowling and smart variations. Even when he wasn’t taking wickets, he kept building pressure by not giving easy runs.
Meanwhile, MI captain and Tilak Varma tried to rebuild the innings slowly. Hardik scored 26 while Tilak managed 20 runs, but neither batter could really accelerate.
For most of the innings, Mumbai looked stuck around the 130-run mark, and many fans felt they would finish with a very low total.
Corbin Bosch Changes the Momentum Completely
Just when things were looking bad for Mumbai Indians, Corbin Bosch arrived and completely changed the mood of the match.
The South African all-rounder played with confidence from the very first ball. Instead of wasting time settling down, Bosch immediately started attacking loose deliveries and finding boundaries.
His unbeaten 32 runs off just 18 balls turned out to be extremely important for MI. He played powerful shots in the death overs and added valuable runs when the team needed them the most.
Bosch’s innings may not have been very long, but it gave Mumbai Indians a fighting total. At one stage MI looked like they would struggle to even cross 130, but Bosch helped them finish at 147/8 after 20 overs.
The MI dugout looked much more relaxed after his late cameo because those extra runs could make a huge difference later in the game.
KKR Face Pressure Chase Despite Small Target
Now the pressure moves towards Kolkata Knight Riders. Chasing 148 may not look very difficult on paper, but IPL matches often become tricky under pressure situations.
KKR know this game is extremely important for their playoff hopes, so every wicket during the chase will increase tension inside Eden Gardens.
Players like Rahane, Rinku Singh, and Angkrish Raghuvanshi will have big responsibility on their shoulders. On the other side, Mumbai Indians still have dangerous bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah who can change the match within a few overs.
Overall, the first innings had everything IPL fans enjoy — early wickets, pressure moments, loud crowd energy, and finally a late fightback from Mumbai Indians. Corbin Bosch’s fearless batting has given MI hope, and now fans are expecting another exciting second innings in Kolkata.
