New Zealand Star Ready to Play the Finisher’s Role for Desert Vipers
The Desert Vipers have strengthened their batting line-up by signing exciting New Zealand middle-order batter Bevon Jacobs for the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL) 2026. Known for his fearless power-hitting and finishing ability, the 24-year-old is expected to provide the firepower needed in the final overs as the Vipers chase another major T20 title this year.
Fresh from winning the DP World ILT20 2026 earlier this year, the Desert Vipers are heading into the Guyana tournament with confidence, and Jacobs believes the squad has everything it takes to lift another trophy.
Bevon Jacobs Embraces the Challenge of Being a T20 Finisher
Unlike top-order batters who often have plenty of time to build an innings, Jacobs understands that his job begins under pressure. Whether he gets six balls or twenty, his mindset remains the same—make the biggest impact possible.
Speaking on the Vipers Voices podcast, Jacobs explained that finishing in T20 cricket is about team success rather than personal milestones.
According to him, scoring quick runs in a handful of deliveries can sometimes be more valuable than playing a slow fifty. Instead of chasing statistics, he focuses on changing the momentum of the match whenever he walks out to bat.
That fearless approach has helped him establish himself as one of New Zealand’s most promising white-ball batters.

Power-Hitting Starts in the Practice Nets
Jacobs revealed that his preparation mirrors real match situations. Rather than spending long sessions simply timing the ball, he recreates pressure scenarios where he has only a few deliveries to score heavily.
Sometimes he imagines needing 20 runs from six balls, while on other occasions he practices clearing the boundary from the very first delivery.
He believes this style of training prepares him mentally and physically for the unpredictable demands of T20 cricket, where a player may have only a handful of balls to influence the outcome.
The aggressive mindset has become a major part of his game and continues to improve his finishing skills.
Accepting Failure Is Part of the Role
Jacobs admitted that learning to accept failure was one of the hardest parts of becoming a finisher.
Since aggressive batting naturally involves taking risks, there will always be innings where things do not go according to plan. However, he believes strike rate and impact matter much more in modern T20 cricket than traditional batting averages.
For Jacobs, a quick cameo featuring a few sixes can often be more valuable than a slower innings with more runs. His philosophy reflects the changing nature of franchise cricket, where explosive contributions frequently decide matches.
Experience Across Global Leagues Has Strengthened His Game
Although still only 24 years old, Jacobs has already gained valuable experience in several top franchise tournaments.
He has represented the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the Caribbean Premier League, Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League, MI Emirates in the DP World ILT20, and was also part of the Mumbai Indians squad in the Indian Premier League.
These opportunities have exposed him to different playing conditions, bowling attacks, and match situations, making him a more complete cricketer.
Caribbean Experience Could Be a Huge Advantage
Having already played in Caribbean conditions, Jacobs feels well prepared for the Guyana Global Super League.
He explained that facing quality spin bowling on slower Caribbean pitches has improved his game significantly. Learning how to rotate strike, attack spinners, and adapt quickly has given him confidence heading into another tournament in the region.
Jacobs also said he is excited to share those experiences with his Desert Vipers teammates while continuing to learn from senior players like Daryl Mitchell, who brings plenty of international experience.
Desert Vipers Eye Another Trophy in 2026
The Desert Vipers arrive in Guyana with momentum after lifting the DP World ILT20 title earlier this year.
Jacobs believes every player in the dressing room should have only one goal—winning the tournament.
He praised the balance and quality of the squad, saying the team has enough talent, experience, and match-winners to challenge every opponent. According to him, success will depend on preparation, teamwork, and maintaining belief throughout the competition.
